Worst blogger ever? Perhaps…

Hello Blog!

How’s it going? Long time no see. I fail at blogging regularly. Wow, seriously, it’s June 1st and I haven’t blogged since mid-April. I’ll try to be better about that in das future.

Since April 19th, I’ve graduated from grad school. I am a MASTER bwahahahaha or something. :-) Not having classes is still really surreal. I keep thinking I have homework to do or books that I’ve been assigned to read or whatever. I think it’ll be even more surreal in September. Even though I’ve been taking summer classes for my Master’s, September always feels like when School starts… so when it doesn’t this year, I’ll probably be very confused. My diploma came in the mail last week, it’s pretty and says I have a Masters in Science… but not what the degree is in which kind of bothers me, but I’ll survive. Planning a graduation party for next Saturday, so that should be fun.

Since April 19th, I’ve subbed a LOT more. I still love it. I don’t sub at Perry as much because the hour long drive is lame and I get paid less, but Fairport has been calling me to sub pretty regularly which is awesome. I even got to proctor AP exams. Woohoo! Seeing as a permanent teaching job doesn’t seem to be on the horizon for me anytime soon, I love that I love subbing because I could probably do this for a least a couple more years without going entirely crazy.

Since April 19th, I’ve joined the Rochester Athletic Club for Women (the RAC) to try and get myself in some sort of shape other than round. I’ve been going 4-5 times a week for about 6 weeks now and I’m not seeing the results… although apparently other people can see them or something… I have my re-eval on Thursday, so hopefully when she weighs me and does all the measurements and whatnot, that will prove to me that there is something positive going on… and if it doesn’t, I will be really frustrated. I’ve been giving up time spent with my fiance and friends and family to go to the gym and better myself, so it had better be doing something.

I have more to write about but my brain just shut down… I’ll post again soon, hopefully.

My calling, let me show you it.

Got called to sub at Fairport today!! At the middle school that I attended. :-)

And I discovered something about myself:

I want my own classroom in a middle or high school (before it was definitely high school, but I love middle school too). I want posters on the wall and a desk filled with my stuff. And students who listen to me or even students who don’t listen to me, but students. I’m usually a bit nervous before I start talking in front of the class, but once I start, I’m good to go. I love interacting with the kids, bantering with them when necessary- being an authority figure when it’s needed.

I feel at home and at ease when I’m in front of the classroom. Sure I only slept from 5:45 am to 7 am this morning, sure my feet are killing me because my socks are too tight and my shoes aren’t as comfortable as I thought, sure I feel like I have to hide parts of my personality in order to give off that teacher-y vibe, but that doesn’t matter. I love teaching.

I love teaching. I LOVE TEACHING!

I definitely need to keep this entry somewhere where I can see it because I’ve questioned my calling on a regular basis- but I shouldn’t… this is who I am. This is who I’m meant to be.

I Am A Teacher.

Successful interview? Whaaaaat?

So, I had a preliminary interview at Fairport today. And I didn’t panic… there were a few moments where my mind would go blank and a couple questions where I had to honestly answer that “no, I haven’t heard of Response To Intervention” and whatever… I also said “lame”, “whatever”, and other things that I probably shouldn’t say in an interview while trying to sound professional.

But, I was actually relaxed and not freaking out, which is a big improvement, especially since a teaching job at Fairport is pretty much my dream job/life goal… well, at this point, any English teaching job would be my dream job/life goal. She said that there probably will not be any English openings next year unless someone gets pregnant and goes on maternity leave or something, but if my interivew went as well as I thought it would, and the phone calls to my references go well, then I will be on the teacher candidate list (woohoo!) and then they would call me for a building level interview (with principal, teachers, and parent/student representatives) and then if that went well, I’d go and model a lesson for them, and then if that went well, I’d get a job. Woo!

But yeah, it was nice to have an interview where I wasn’t panicking like mad whoa. *smiles*

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

So… the semester has officially started again and I’m a little bit overwhelmed.

I thought this semester was going to be kind of easy because I just have to finish my thesis and do my coaching practicum, little did I know the coaching practicum was going to be more work than Jesus. Gah. Oh well, it should be fun anyway.

I’m going to be subbing for the first time next week!! They called me super-in-advance (today) about next Thursday. I will be subbing in Perry for 11th grade History classes… which is American History, so it shouldn’t be too hard, but I’m still kinda nervous because it’s my first time subbing and NOT in my content area. Eep. Oh well, I’ll have to suck it up and deal. I need the experience and the extra money won’t be too horrible either. It’s only $65 before taxes, but whatevs.

We’re having a “conversation” with Joel, myself, my Dad, and the future-in-laws on Sunday afternoon/evening to discuss finances for the wedding… that should be interesting, considering I have no idea who is going to offer to pay for what. Traditionally the bride’s family pays for the majority of stuff and the groom’s family just pays for the rehearsal dinner, I don’t think if that’s what we’ll do or something else… I guess that’s what the conversation will decide.

To Do:

-Create questionnaires/consent forms to send to Prof H to distribute to her students.

-Create mini-workshop about writing rubrics.

-Find 2-3 articles about something literacy related and interesting to me to give to people in coaching.

-Read articles that my prof gave us and “reflect” on them.

-Look into stuff about topics of the Professional Developments and Resource Centers we have to put together.

-Clean my room?

Oops.

It’s been pretty much forever since I posted last… or 20 days.

I got a substitute teaching position at Fairport!! I filled out my paper work last week, got my fingerprint clearance in the mail, told Rachel (manager at Weggies) that I can only work weekends/evenings now, bought some grown-up substitute teach-y clothes… and now I just have to wait for them to call. Waiting…. waiting…. waiting…. doesn’t it suck???

I’m excited for but kinda scared of subbing, I’ve heard such horror stories about it… but it’s getting my foot in the door and once I start, I’ll actually be working towards something productive… and I might feel like less of a waste of space. Woo!

It’s almost Halloween… and I don’t know what I’m doing on the actual day. Sisan and I were talking about going out… Erica and I were talking about going out or watching bad horror movies and drinking wine… Joel suggested Guitar Hero World Tour… maybe we can combine all 3, hmmmmm. Is it sad that there are only 3 people in the Rochester area whose plans I care about? LoL…

Other than that, not too much to report. I actually lost weight last week, after 3 weeks of gaining, so that was awesome… but I didn’t do so well this week with the eating healthy… so I’m nervous about the weigh-in tomorrow.
